Piel de Sapo

Last week I was at the Farmers Market and happened upon this little melon. It’s shape and size is similar to a football and it has a green skin with yellow undertones. Actually, what initially struck my interest was its name. “Piel de Sapo” means frog’s skin in Spanish. I had never heard of it before, and that fact that it was organic and sweet was enough to move me to buy one.

It’s taste was similar to a cantaloupe but a little sweeter and it;s flesh was very soft. In picking a good “Piel de Sapo”, choose one that has significant yellow undertones on its skin and feels heavier than it looks. The heaviness indicates more juice!
